Wood Stove Love

We love our wood stoves. Plural. As in two. We are so lucky to be able to heat our home in a sustainable way if the power goes out. They keep the home and the heart warm. But it is important to remember that unless it is used safely, a wood stove is no fun for anyone. Here are our tips and tricks to ensure a fun, fab and cozy night in by the fire. To enumerate. The safe use a wood stove fire entails:

• Start with crumpled balls of newspaper and small kindling.
• Once it is lit and crackling, step up to larger sticks.
• When young fire is established, add 1-2 small logs in a criss cross.
• Shorter logs in downstairs stove, longer logs in upstairs stove.
• Stoke as needed.
• Keep stove doors closed at all times.
• Never add logs firebox can’t handle.
• If the door won't close the log is too big.
• Do not jam firebox full.
• Never use an accelerant or burn anything besides the proper paper/cardboard/wood combo.

• If you can't safely use a wood stove then please, for the love of god, don’t.

Now you know all there is to know about using a wood stove safely. When you come stay with us, you can rest assured that you will be warm and cozy.
