4 Catskills Spots to Hit the Slopes

Ah yes. The rush of hydroplaning down a mountain. It is nothing short of powerful. In the great Northern Catskill Mountains, we have many slopes to choose from. Additionally, there are an array of accommodations types and styles. You can truly customize your time in the North Country tailor made for you. To enumerate, here are four great places to start:

Ski Windham

Ski Windham is a mountain with nothing short of 1600 vertical feet of skiing and riding enjoyment.

Windham Mountain Resort offers the most skiing and riding you’ll find within 200 miles of NYC. Skiers and riders can find 285 skiable acres and 54 trails over two peaks, 6 terrain parks and 11 lifts. Our snowmaking team covers 275 acres, 97% of our terrain, with a deep base of snow while our groomers skillfully create the best surface conditions possible.

Belleayre

Belleayre Since the very beginning of the American skiing experience, skiers gazed at the steep, rugged inclines of Belleayre Mountain and dreamed of refining them. In the 1940’s skiing enthusiasts pressured politicians to develop Belleayre as a safe and fun mountain for families and extreme skiers alike. In 1947 bills were introduced allowing New York State to create Belleayre Mountain. Construction began in 1949 and Belleayre began its premier winter season with five trails, an electrically powered rope tow, New York’s first chairlift, a summit lodge, a temporary base lodge with a cafeteria and dirt floors and parking to accommodate 300 people. It would become the center for winter sports in the region and an economic catalyst for the surrounding communities

Plattekill

Plattekill Mountain prides themselves on being the last family owned and operated ski mountain in the region. On offer are 38 exciting trails with 1100 feet of vertical drop. The double black diamonds are some of the deepest in the east. Tubing is also offered, and the whole mountain has a family friendly vibe.

Hunter

Hunter is a sleek resort with a spa, fitness center, restaurant, and outdoor hot tubs. With 13 lifts and a summit of 1,600 feet above sea level, it’s the closest “big” mountain to New York City. Additionally, Hunter boasts trails, glades and four freestyle terrain parks.
