Salt Water Hot Tubs: A Reality Check

We adore our hot tub. It is the best. But holy moly it is a lot of work to maintain. Here’s the reality check: the heater is expensive to maintain, the filters are a fortune, the parts are hard to get and super pricey and the lid to the tub even needs to be replaced every few years. It’s like owning a foreign sports car.

Our tub was a gift. A very generous one. But if we had any idea how much running this tub was going to cost us we might have been forced to decline. But when you’re in that bubbly salt water late at night with a nip in the air… oh wait. Did we mention we have to shut it down on the first frosty week? If we don’t the pipes burst.

Where were we? Ah yes, the shooting stars. When you’re in the bubbly water with those jets loosening all the troubles of the day away, it really is quite nice. So, if you can afford having someone handle all of this for you-all of it- while you live your life doing whatever it is that you do, then go for it! For the rest of us, it’s time to roll up the sleeves and figure out what is clogging that intake valve.
