Guest Blogger NYC Wedding Photographer Angela Cappetta

So you want to host a farm wedding. Congratulations! We asked Angela Cappetta all about what it takes to hire the best photographer for your event, no matter where it takes place!

5 Things You Need to Know

1. WHAT IS DOCUMENTARY-STYLE EVENT PHOTOGRAPHY?

We are known for, and are proud of, our candid approach. After all, why else would you hire a documentary-style photography and video team? We have assembled talent that captures the best of your tribe on your day. We combine personal moments with creative portraits that engage your narrative. Furthermore, we make sure to provide the most heartfelt and authentic coverage. Our grips, assistants and shooters are highly trained within the studio directly with Angela herself. Yet she makes sure that each photographer retains their own individual style. This offers rich visuals and beautiful story telling. Our team has a range that encompasses all the essentials of superb fine art wedding photography. To enumerate, these are: classic portraits, snappy photojournalism and, most importantly, a personal style. This sums us up well!

2. WHAT DO YOU PROVIDE AFTER THE JOB IS OVER?

Our workflow is simple and easy to follow. After the job, every file is sent to you via FTP with light retouching and color optimization included. Real film wedding photography jobs are handled in the same way, except, they have a longer lead time. This is because the film has to be processed by hand which takes longer. Hand processing ensures the high quality our customers have come to expect from us. We use real Kodak film As for albums, we make it easy! Our team sends a first draft of your album for you to review. And sometimes, your wedding may even end up in a fancy magazine like this one did. NBD.

3. HOW BIG OF A TEAM WILL BE COVERING OUR EVENT?

Apart from our video team, our still photo team usually is comprised of two (2) shooters and one (1) assistant for weddings up to 125 guests. Larger than that, we scale up to an additional grip and a shooter. However, since we specialize in shooting weddings that are as individual as you are, we customize the team size to your job scope. If you have also purchased a video package, the video team will be there as well. This is a camera operator, a sound person and usually a grip. We scale this up as needed.

4. WHAT DOES IT TAKE TO SHOOT FOR ANGELA CAPPETTA AND COMPANY?

We get CV's daily. It's incredible how many new shooters think they can start at a top studio like ours. Some applicants, however, are highly qualified. Yet not even all of these even get an interview. We require some non negotiable skills to work here. For starters, the tall list we require includes:

  1. A valid passport and clean driver's license.

  2. High technical acumen and a beautiful, creative portfolio.

  3. The right personality: customer focused, perfect manners, grace under pressure.

  4. A can-do attitude.

  5. An additional language.

  6. Trained well on all the best gear, software etc.

  7. Work ethic, work ethic, work ethic.

5. WE ARE HAVING A DESTINATION WEDDING, CAN WE FLY YOU IN?

We are professional flyers. Long haul travel is part of what we do. And hauling gear through airports is part of the job description. Many of our clients fly us in to their destination with their own miles or on their own jets. However, we occasionally book air travel in-house. Furthermore, your wedding planner may handle all of the travel arrangements through their company.  It depends on what the job requires. We are always flexible. There is a customary small per-diem with domestic and/or foreign travel. We are excellent at providing back up and receipts.
